Nature as our natural language

Nature has always been more than just a backdrop for us, mostly it’s a source of ideas. It brings clarity. It brings inspiration. And, in our case, it brought ISEA to life.

Lea has always shared a special bond with nature. She sees details most people overlook. She knows the names of flowers as if they were old friends. She notices their shapes, their textures, their subtle variations in color. Whenever I need to choose flowers, I don’t hesitate: I ask her.

It’s no surprise, then, that our very first campaign happened in the forest. I still remember our first photo shoot vividly. We didn’t plan anything elaborate. We simply went into the woods, carrying our first products with us, stepping carefully over roots and moss, guided by instinct more than by strategy. When I look back at those photos today, I sometimes laugh, because I see two dreamers, standing in the forest, surrounded by nature, looking almost like fairies discovering their own little world. But in that moment, something important happened. We understood, without saying it out loud, that nature would always be part of ISEA's identity.

The "balloon technique"

When we started to brainstorm about our silk scarves, our first thought came of course from nature: flowers.

Neither of us are traditional illustrators. We didn’t want to sit down and try to draw perfect flowers with precise lines. That wouldn’t have felt honest to us. Instead, we searched for a process that reflected the imperfect beauty of nature itself. That’s when we discovered what we now call the "balloon technique". The process is simple. We dip a balloon into paint and use it as a brush, not in a controlled way, but intuitively. We touch the balloon to the paper, then lift it again with a soft movement of the hand. Each touch creates a shape. Slowly, flower forms begin to emerge... nothing is planned, rather discovered.

It feels less like drawing and more like letting the flowers appear on their own.

Each print is unique. Each pattern carries movement and unpredictability, just like flowers in nature.

From paper to display

Once we create these physical patterns, the next phase begins: digital transformation. We carefully select the most beautiful elements and converted them into vector form. From there, the real playground opens. Color becomes our main focus. We experiment testing combinations and adjusting tones. This process takes time. Sometimes much longer than expected.

In the end, we developed two color designs. The first is a warm palette built around shades of pink, ranging from soft rose to deeper burgundy. The second palette offers a combination of baby blue and earthy brown. It reflects the sky and soil.

Before finalizing anything, we print our designs, pin them on our board, and live with them for a while. We observe them from a distance. It’s a process of refinement, not adding more, but understanding what truly matters. Once the design and colors are complete, the final step takes the journey beyond our studio.

From display to our hands

Our patterns travel to Italy, near Lake Como, where they are brought to life on 100% silk material. This is, to us, the most magic moment of the process. Our ideas born in nature, shaped by paint and refined through digital tools are transformed into something tangible. Something you can wear. Something that carries a story. Every scarf begins in nature. In flowers. And every time someone wears one, a small piece of that story continues to live on.

With love,

Isabel
